SAINT FRANCIS PREP ART DEPARTMENT SENIOR ADVANCED DRAWING AND PAINTING GALLERIES SFP SENIOR ARTIST - ASHLEY ADAMKIEWICZHi, I’m Ashley Adamkiewicz and I am a current senior at St. Francis Prep. I am in the National Arts Honor Society and in several art classes such as Photography, CAD, Advanced Digital Design, Advanced Drawing and Painting, and AP Art History. Art has always been my favorite form of expression because of how many diverse techniques and mediums there are to try out. I would consider my art style to be semi-realistic or illustrative. I enjoy creating artwork that is based on mythological creatures and original characters. I have always enjoyed creating art that is used for story telling. That is why I want to major in illustration. My dream job would be a storyboard illustrator or character designer for Marvel or Pixar. Art has always been my passion ever since I was a toddler. Expressing myself creatively has been and always will be my passion. Creating artwork that has strong meaning, or that can tell a story would be a dream for me as a career. I would like to major in illustration to enhance my love for storytelling through images in a larger scale in a big industry. As an illustration major, I can not only build on my technical and artistic skills, but be able to work in diverse fields. Illustration is such a broad major that allows for me to dabble in different types of mixed media; from comic book illustration to design images for magazines. The possibilities are endless. SFP SENIOR ARTIST - ISABELLA AGATEHi! My name is Isabella and I am currently a senior at St. Francis Prep. I have always been interested in drawing and painting as a kid. The art departments teachers have really shaped me into the artist I am and I have always valued their ideas and teachings. Taking these classes has really allowed me to branch out and try different artistic fields. These classes also challenged my skills as an artist to help me become better. I really appreciate all the talented artists in my classes who have inspired me as well. A result of taking these classes has lead me to my decision of taking fashion design courses in college. I love to explore and learn different fashion styles so that I could create my own. This year I’ve learned that I work really well with my hands. I started to design and create headpieces. I also learned how to sew by hand and with the machine. I hope to use these skills in the future towards my career because I enjoy the creation process. I know that designing and creating artwork will always be a part of my life because I want to share my ideas with the rest of the world someday. I am really grateful for everyone in the art department at Prep. I have made amazing friendships with my classmates and my teachers that I will forever cherish in my heart. SFP SENIOR ARTIST - JOMARIE ALMEUSHey there! My name is Jomarie Ann Almeus. I’m 17 years old, and I’m from Queens Village, New York. I’m a first-generation Haitian-Cuban student. I come from a family full of musicians, artists, and creative writers. My grandfather was a painter. He painted portraits of his wife all the time! My father is a musician and my mother is a singer; however, I don’t have any musical talent. Instead,My love for art transcends all bounds. I started drawing seriously when I was seven years old. I actually started trying digitally using Photoshop on my dad’s computer! I would watch multiple cartoons and animes and try to recreate the styles of them, like Avatar: The Last Airbender. That was my way of learning how to draw. Till this day, I still watch TV shows and use them as references for my art works. Digital art is my passion, but I’m starting to be fond of traditional art as well. I find charcoal to be one of my most favorite mediums to use right next to markers. My goal is to be the most versatile and confident artist I can be. SFP SENIOR ARTIST - JOSHUA BALINA"Hi, my name is Josh. I love to focus on my art. I like to show art work that I am proud of. I know that my art may make an impact on someone else. I am proud to be who I am, and what I believe in. One of my biggest motivations in life is to make my family proud. I say what I believe in, in my art. " - Josh Balina SFP SENIOR ARTIST - WILLIAM BARRY "I want to pursue a career in animation. I find movies entertaining and it’s my goal in life to bring entertainment to the masses. I thoroughly enjoy all kinds of art, however. I’m into drawing, painting, computer arts such as modeling, sculpture, and obviously film, to name a few. I’m also a member of the Alvernian Drama Society. Acting is another interest of mine. In a few years, look for my name in the credits of a film." - William Barry SFP SENIOR ARTIST - KAYLA CONELLIOne of the things I loved best about Prep was the art department. All of the teachers in the art department push you to do your best, and they always want you to be the best artist you can be. There are such a wide variety of art classes to take, and I remember looking through the art booklet as an eighth grader and looking forward to the classes to choose as a junior and senior. During my freshman and sophomore years I was in the advanced honors class, and once I got to be a junior I took Drawing From Life, Computer Graphics, CAD, and Advanced Drawing and Painting. Now I’m taking Architecture, the second part of Advanced Drawing and Painting, and AP Art History. Each class helped me grow as an artist, and expand my horizons with the amount of different types of art that are focused on. I did everything from digital art, to architecture, to life drawing, and each time using a lot of different mediums to express my work. SFP SENIOR ARTIST - KEYING LAI / SHERRY"When I came to America , new environment, I felt very anxious and upset. One day, things changed. I participated in an art competition and won the championship. All the students came to congratulate me. After that, the students started to talk to me. Winning the art competition , made me fall in love with art. Art is the mother of language; it speaks to all people and helps to release pressure from my life." - Keying Lai SFP SENIOR ARTIST - TARYN LIELLOMy name is Taryn Liello, and I am a senior at St. Francis Prep. I am an art student, I’m taking drawing, painting, ceramics, and advanced drawing and painting this year. I also enjoy playing guitar, learning languages, traveling, photography, playing video games, and I love animals. Art has helped me evolve as a student and as a person. I have two frogs, Napoleon and Octavian. They are so cute and they inspire me to draw a photo of a frog, which will be my submission into the scholastic art competition. Inspiration developed from one of the other things I love which allowed me to create a piece that I was passionate and excited about doing. SFP SENIOR ARTIST - ANTONIA LUCANIAI first attended St Francis prep I was enrolled in the generic studio in art class, my art teacher asked me why I wasn’t in honors which confused me. I really didn’t think I drew anything better than anyone else but why would I say no to going into honors. From that day forward if had a huge work load for my art classes. I say classes because between junior and senior year I’ve been enrolled in 8 art classes including, advanced drawing and painting and AP art history. I feel like it was fate that I would play guitar. My guitar teacher ended up giving me a red acoustic guitar. For a few years I used to just strum it while it was out of tune, no cords either because I didn’t know what a “chord” was. I know it was really nice of the guitar man to give me my first guitar and I which I still owned that cherry wood guitar but I ended up leaning/sitting on it and snapped it in half. I never played one chord on that guitar but I still feel that it was a factor that effected my future of buying a new Yamaha acoustic guitar and taking lessons freshman year of high school. Junior year my friends told me that I should try out for honors jazz band although I’ve never taken a full year music class in st Francis prep. It took a lot of courage but I tried out and ended up making it in, which surprised me because i was beet red throughout the whole thing and messed up a few chords. Now I spend a majority of my time in class, guitar lessons, and practicing at home. This taught me to try even though I don’t believe that I’m good enough because I might be in the end. This also taught me time management, patience, precision and discipline. SFP SENIOR ARTIST - VICTORIA RESHETNIKOVI’ve never been able to disconnect this creative facet from myself. I love everything about creating art. I experiment with subject matter, incorporate surrealism into my work, practice mark making and layering, and do everything I can to improve the way I present my ideas. Illustration has always intrigued me, and I’ve naturally gravitated towards harsh lines and boldness in my work. The importance of conveying ideas and messages through art has always intrigued, me, and I love working to create visual narratives and stories that can be deciphered in my projects. I also find goats to be a big subject in my work. Their pastoral, dumbfounding quality helps me reach outside the urban environment I’ve been raised in and enter a more peaceful, domestic part of myself. Compounded with art, I’m also very passionate about adolescent education, psychology, and social work. I’ve always been teaching and observing others. Watching young kids grow and shape their character is so interesting to me, and helping them do this through therapy and education is even more exciting. I’m also passionate about social work and have felt myself gravitate towards issues of education reform in New York City. I love tutoring, and the brilliance of helping a child understand larger concepts is a very rewarding practice. In the future, I look to combine my two fields of interest to pursue art therapy. I am ready as a student and a community leader to make art a cooperative platform, and through this cooperation, rehabilitative. Joy is preserved through the arts, and, as a teacher, I find passion in acting as a steward to maintain and preserve the wonder and creativity of young minds. SFP SENIOR ARTIST - SHULIN SONG" Greetings! I am Shulin, an at student at SFP!, I have since associated fashion design as an art style that voices self-expression. I dream about having my voices heard through my own designs. After I finally got a sewing machine, I became tremendously devoted to creating patterns. When I sewed a doll garment, the tiny pieces of fabric were too small to pass through the machine, so I learned to pin them onto tissue paper. As I acquire more techniques, however, the small scale for doll clothes felt limited. I began sketching, pattern cutting, and sewing dresses for humans. Interestingly, I realized that a fashion design project would entail the same design inspiration process, research work, and visualization ability that I had conducted hundreds of times designing doll outfits. I had a new revelation- my years of practice on dolls have prepared me to fashion design." - Shulin Song SFP SENIOR ARTIST -XUANCHEN ZHU - KYLEHi! My name is Xuanchen Zhu, and I am a senior student here at St. Francis Prep. I have been involved with different varieties of art classes since my freshman year at prep. Such as two-dimensional design, drawing from life, computer graphics and also AP art history. I am also involved in the National Art Honor Society as a member since junior year. I really appreciate all of the experiences and skills I learned from our art department in Prep. Our amazing faculties and teachers are all so inspiring and really helped me to become a better artist. Art plays such an important role in my life that I feel like I can’t live with it. I also want to develop my art abilities in terms of skills and concepts when I get to college. Illustration is my biggest passion in terms of arts and I would very much like to learn more about illustration design in the future.
